BAREBACK TO THE FUTURE?

Todd Hull, Northwest AIDS Education and Training Center

For 30 years we’ve been fanning the flames of condom use, even against the bareback backdraft of the last decade. New studies have shown the effectiveness of antiretroviral treatment in reducing the risk of HIV transmission. The FDA may soon approve PrEP for use as prevention in HIV-negative people. Is fucking on meds the new “safe sex”? What role will condoms play in this brave new world? What’s next, and what should/can we do about it? A spirited discussion about barebacking, condoms and HIV prevention at the dawn of the 21st century.
