Coming Out after 65: Health Implications for Gay Male Elders

Ken South, Washington DC

This experiential workshop will help participants to accomplish several things within the 75 minute workshop, including:

  • Understanding the psycho-social realities of the differences between the various generations of older gay men and its implications for their health care.
  • Looking at their own issues and attitudes around ageism using individual and small group exercises.
  • Examining a cohort of older gay men who participated in a survey by Prime Timers to see how coming out or not affects relationships with their health care providers.
  • Participating in a brainstorming session about HIV prevention efforts with gay men over 60.
